The 42HDS69 has a 40% higher pixel count than conventional 42" plasmas. The screen's 1024 x 1080 pixels can display more detail than typical models with 1024 x 768-pixel resolution. Hitachi uses ALiS (Alternate Lighting of Surfaces) screens for their 42" plasmas. This high-efficiency panel technology was developed specifically for displaying 1080i high-definition video. The walls between the screen's rows of pixels are thinner, which increases the percentage of active display area for a seamless picture with outstanding brightness, clarity and contrast.
The 42HDS69 includes built-in tuners for receiving both over-the-air and cable TV signals. If you rely on over-the-air broadcasts, this TV can tune in all digital and standard (analog) signals. To get the most out of the set's cable tuner, ask your local service provider about a CableCARD. This "smart card" goes in the dedicated slot in the TV's back panel and replaces your set-top cable box. Using a CableCARD will simplify your hookup and operation and usually provides a clearer picture.
