Leaders of pro-BNP and pro-Jamaat workers’ associations have called for the removal of a Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) member accusing him of causing delays and creating obstacles in staff promotions, regularisations, and salary adjustments.
The accused CPA member is Md Habibur Rahman (admin and planning).
The demand was made during a meeting with CPA Member (harbour and marine) Commodore M Fazlar Rahman and other senior officials at the CPA Boardroom.
The workers’ groups, including Chattogram Port Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal (former CBA) and Islami Sramik Sangha, submitted a letter to the CPA chairman outlining their grievances. The letter was signed by leaders such as Mojaher Hossain Shawkat, Humayun Kabir, Mohammad Helal Uddin, and Mohammad Yasin.
According to Humayun Kabir, at least 45 files related to salary fixation of promoted staff have been pending for 10 months without valid reasons, along with delays in job regularisations and promotions in various departments.
CPA Secretary Md Omar Faruk couldn’t be contacted despite several attempts.
Workers’ leaders have warned of tougher actions if their demands are not addressed.
